I remember when I was young, Dad would often say, "Let's go for an afternoon drive!" Of course we were all up for a drive. But we soon learned that Dad's drives usually ended up at the city dump. This was back in the day when the dump was free to get in.
Dad loved to dig through the stuff at the dump. He might find a treasure there he could use. He came home with many treasures from the dump. I don't remember off hand what any of them were. I just remember his funny mischievous grin when he would find some thing he wanted to bring home.
Trips to the dump were always an adventure.

If you remember any quaint sayings my Dad used to say, please send them to me. I would like to make a post of his funny sayings.
